Time in China Winding Down
When we wake up tomorrow morning we will have just two days left in China...and then a full day of flying home! We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here but are very anxious to be home with Rachel and Isaac and extended family and friends. The past few days the weather had dropped into the 60 degree range, but it was back up to the mid/high 70 degree range today and it felt great. It is supposed to stay in the mid 70s for the last few days we have left here. We better enjoy the warmth now since we won't be feeling these kinds of temps for many months once we return home! Today we only had to spend about 20 minutes at our hotel filling out some US Consulate paperwork with our guide and the rest of the day was free time. (Tomorrow is our appointment at the US Consulate.) We got a late start to our day and then did some shopping for gifts in the afternoon. We walked over the bridge to the herbal/pet market area to pick up some dinner in the shopping strip. We decided to try the fast food chain restaurant that has Bruce Lee as its logo. We ordered it to go and brought it back to our room to eat. We like Bruce Lee movies but would not recommend his restaurant. :) Not terrible, but the meat had lots of bones and gristle...we know that is pretty typical of how Chinese eat their meat though so as not to waste any parts I think. Chun Le is continuing to do well and learning new ways to communicate with us. Tonight she was not tired at her usual bedtime since we had started the day about an hour later than usual. So when we were getting her settled down, she walked over to the dress we picked out for her to wear tomorrow and picked it up to show us she wanted to get dressed up and go somewhere! She is also starting to say what sounds like "bye" when she waves goodbye to someone. She definitely is starting to understand some of our English instructions, but it may be awhile before she speaks it and it may be difficult making certain sounds with her cleft palate. That is about it for our day as it was not too eventful. I will include a couple pics that show the day and night view of Guangzhou that we have from our fifth floor hotel room.

It gets to feeling pretty long toward the end, doesn't it? Hope your consulate appointment goes well and that you are able to enjoy the last couple of days in GZ. Remember to spend the last of your yuan before you leave there, since they use different currency in HK! I'm so enjoying your posts and glad to hear that Chun Le is continuing to do well!
ReplyDeleteYep the days are starting to feel longer and living out of a hotel room for the past 9 days is getting old. We are ready to be back to home sweet home! We are going to the pearl and jade markets today so we may be able to spend quite a bit of our RMB there; if not, we are going to find out if the bank will convert RMB to HKD as we will need quite a bit to pay for a taxi from the train station in Hong Kong to our hotel near the airport.
ReplyDeleteSomething told me that fast food with Bruce Lee wasn't going to be that good. :) It was in bowls?? Just curious about what it was...rice and chicken? Chicken with a broth? Have you found a McDonalds? I always find it interesting to see what they sell that appeals to the surrounding population. In Dubai, McDonalds sell a McKafta. It's arabic bread filled with either "chicken" or "lamb". I only tried it once about four years ago.

Enjoy your last days in Guangzhou. It looks like Chun Le is bonding well with you. Have a safe trip home. I hope she sleep well on the flight for you. Keeping my fingers crossed.
