Surgery Date Rescheduled

We will now be having Chun Le's lip revision surgery on January 31st. We had been doing research on the need for ear tubes in cleft kids and the more we learned the more we did not feel comfortable at this point having ear tubes put in. We realize that it is not a risky procedure nor are there too many post op complications, but we learned that many cleft kids do not need ear tubes. So we felt that, until we get more concrete evidence that Chun Le would benefit from ear tubes, we will not have them inserted. Her hearing tests at the ENT back on Dec 27th showed below normal hearing, but the audiologist felt that it is likely due to the ear infection she happened to have that day. She has just had that one infection, so we will keep tabs on how frequently she develops ear infections or if she seems to have constant ear pain due to high levels of fluid in her ear (another symptom that can occur in cleft kids). Since we know she will be having another cleft related surgery to close her palate later this summer we think that would be a time that they could put the ear tubes in if we feel they are needed. Also, having just the lip revision done allowed us to move her surgery date up a bit since we did not have to find a time where both the cosmetic surgeon and ENT specialist were available to work together. I will add a few new pics next time I post to the blog...I have to get to bed now! I just got off my shift of online tutoring and am needing my sleep.
