When we received news from our agency about our log in date they said that it would be OK to use one of the sites that send care packages to China orphanages. We chose to use Ann at Red Thread China. We have heard excellent reviews of her business and have been so happy working with her so far. I have emailed at least twice asking questions about the care package and CL's orphange and she gets right back to me with such helpful information. Here is one excerpt of an email from her in response to our questions:
1. Do you know if this orphanage usually responds to questions we might ask in a letter if we also purchase a self-addressed envelope? If so, would asking 10 questions be too many or should we ask only 5 or less questions?
I know your child orphanage and mailed packages to them before ,they are quite friendly ! After you order your package from our website ,email em your child name in Chinese characters ,DOB and your 5-6 very important questions ...before I mail your package out ,i will request updates and answers for you !
2. This is not related to a care package, but a question for you since you live in Guangdong province. Some Chinese Americans we know thought that there is a chance that Cantonese rather than Mandarin may be the common language used in Wuchuan city since it is so far south in China. Do you happen to know what would likely be the language spoken by the nannies at the orphange? We are hoping to learn some basic language before we travel to China, but want to be sure we are learning the correct language spoken in the region where our daughter is.
Wu Chuan comes with several different kind of local languages ,depends on the location ,it is different from Cantonese and Mandarin ,people from the Wu Chuan city speak Mei Lu language ...Most people in China now can speak Mandarin !! If I don`t remember wrong your child orphanage speak local language to their kids ,I met couple kids with their families when they came to GuangZhou ,those girls speak local language !!
Today was such a fun afternoon as we took a few family pics (shown at the start of this blog) to be put in a soft squishy Baby Einstein album for CL. Along with the photo album for her to "meet us" in picture form we sent a tin of cookies and special tea for the nannies, 24 pairs of socks to be donated to the children at her orphanage, and a flash drive that will have instructions asking the nannies there to put pictures of CL's early life and any special documents that we would want to have and include in her Lifebook. We will be able to get this flash drive when we travel to China. As part of the service we got to write a letter that will be translated and given to the orphanage staff so that we can express our appreciation to them and ask them to let our daughter know that we all are so much looking forward to meeting her and becoming a family of five! It will be interesting to find out what kind of response/answers we get from the orphange in regard to the questions Ann will ask on our behalf when she calls them.

ReplyDeleteFirst...such cute photos for CL to meet you all. Especially nice that you took the kids at the park. Maybe in her young mind and understanding she will look forward to not only meeting you all but going to this "fun place".
Second....that is really neat that you got to send a care package. I didn't now you could do that kind of thing. I but you would want to send her one a day if you could but it would be too expensive and overwhelming for the orphanage. :)
