Going "Public" with our Daughter!

We got permission from our agency the other day that, now that our Letter of Confirmation has been signed, we can post pictures and refer to our daughter in China by name on our blog! I am sure that most, if not all of you, who read this blog know already that her name is Chun Le! We are still deciding on what her American middle name will be. We thought for awhile we were going to call her Chun Le Ruth Stowers but have decided against that. In the midst of all of our reading and education on adoption issues that we have enjoyed we learned how important it is for her and us to celebrate her rich and wonderful Chinese heritage. We fully intend to and are excited about doing that! A main reason we had for thinking about naming her Ruth was in light of Ruth from the Bible who said to her mother-in-law "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God."(Ruth 1:16) We sure do hope and pray that one day these will be the thoughts of Chun Le's heart toward us as her forever family and toward the Lord, but we also want to be careful not to imply with choosing the name of Ruth that we want her to deny her wonderful Chinese heritage in any way. That would certainly not be our intention! So that is why we are going to choose another American middle name for her. We would like it to be Biblical like our other children's first names. Some of the top choices right now include: Elizabeth, Anna, Esther. But we are open to other suggestions and thoughts from friends and family--feel free to leave us a comment on this topic. :) We promise that Hannah is not in the running in case that is the name of our soon to arrive baby niece...or will it be a baby nephew?? We love that name but also know quite a few Hannah's so want to choose a less common one among our group of friends.

  1. I love that you can publicize your joy!! A good friend of ours here just went to Ethiopia to meet their second child. Their first daughter is also from Ethiopia and from the same orphanage. They sent us pictures and video of their first meet and greet and even though I am not a teary-eyed person I was getting very emotional for them. It was so sweet to witness that special first time connection. They were even able to have an overnight but now have to go home and wait til some paperwork is done. They said it is heart wrenching to meet your daughter then have to giver her back until everything is sorted out. I was thinking the whole time of both you guys and the McCaigs (their journey of having their boys). I can't wait til you get to hold her in your arms and take her home.

By the way...I have to say that I still love Ruth. I haven't done any research so I don't understand the whole thing but my next personal choice on your list would be Esther. I have always loved that name too but John prefers the Hebrew version of it: Haddassah. Esther also makes sense to me only because we have a Chinese girl in our youth group named Esther. :) I'm sure that whatever you choose will be special.
