We just got an email from our agency who received updates on Chun Le. We are amazed at how quickly her orphanage staff responds to questions from adoption agencies on behalf of adoptive parents. We know of many families in process of adoption have to wait weeks before they get answers to their questions or updated measurements on their child. We are very impressed with and thankful for the great care she must receiving from the nannies at Wuchuan City Social Welfare Institute. We asked a few questions that had to do with her measurements (to know what size clothes/shoes to bring when we travel to bring her home), if she still uses a bottle and if it is a cleft type one, if she is potty training yet (they often do this at a very early age in China), if she knows any language yet, and if we can visit her orphanage. This is the email response we got (after translation of course):
Size: height 79cm(31in), weight 10kg(22lb), head 45.6cm(18in), chest 48cm(19in), feet length 12cm(4.7in).
She eats from her special bottle. She also eats rice porridge, she needs
diaper. She gets up at 6:30am, a nap from 12:00--14:00, goes to bed at
8:00pm. She eats at 11:00am, 15:00. 19:00. She lives a regular life.
She can walk by herself, can greet to people by her own way( baba words) or
waving her hand. She smiles to people she knows, can understands simple
sentences, can give toys to other babies if she is asked to do so.
It's very far from Guangzhou to Wuchuan city, about 1500km round trip. Don't you think is it too much for the child? The orphanage said if they want to go to see the orphanage, it is ok.
Updates are so fun...one of the next best things to being able to take off on a flight to China right now to pick her up. :) We have to put some thought into whether or not we will make the trip to her orphanage. It comes to about 930 miles round trip so that certainly would be a crazy long day of travel for a little girl who has been through so much as she is making the transition to our family. We will talk to some families who have been there done that and see what they think. We would LOVE to see the place where she has spent the first 21 months or so of her life before she came into our lives, but don't want our early days with her to be any more traumatic than they need to be. That decision will be an item for research and prayer! I will also attach a picture of her that we did not post before. It is from the group of nine photos we got back in June. They were taken on June 15th...she would have just turned 16 months old in them. The background is her orphanage building.

Yay! This is exciting...we will be praying that the travel decision will be clear for you both. Not that it matters, but I REALLY like the name Ruth.
